Akima Telecom Team Lead in Lorton, Virginia TUVA is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Telecom Team Lead to supervise and coordinate activities of multiple teams to ensure project delivery efficiently to the highest standards. The team lead will direct a crew of two or more technicians in performing various tasks such as cable pulling, terminating and testing copper or fiber cable, bonding/grounding, installing cable tray and various other types of cable support hardware. The ideal candidate will monitor project schedules, timelines and will possess expert knowledge in the Information and Communication Technology field. Responsibilities Demonstrates knowledge of types of copper cable Demonstrates knowledge of types of fiber cable Interprets project drawings (blueprints) Performs labeling according to a labeling scheme Builds closets, telecom rooms, entrance facilities, equipment rooms and data centers Installs grounding infrastructure Installs cable support systems Installs sleeves Installs cable trays, ladder racks and continuous cable support systems Installs cable supports when cable is under the floor Installs poke throughs Installs cut-in rings (cavity box) Performs cable pulling setup Installs pull (draw) string or rope in conduit Pulls backbone—riser from top down Pulls backbone—riser from bottom up Pulls backbone—horizontal backbone Pulls cable—copper and fiber Installs correct connecting hardware for copper and fiber terminations (patch panels, 110-blocks, enclosures, etc.) Performs fiber and copper termination Performs fiber and copper splicing Performs fiber and copper cable troubleshooting Demonstrates basic knowledge of physical network topologies Demonstrates knowledge of installing wireless systems Demonstrates knowledge of DAS systems Demonstrates knowledge of Passive Optical LAN Adheres to local, state and federal fire/building codes/standards Collaborates closely with the Project Manager (PM) to manage project schedules and take ownership of project outcomes, ensuring milestones are met in a timely manner and projects are completed on time and within budget Qualifications Eight+ years of experience High School degree or equivalent Ability to lead a team of 2 or more Telecom Technicians Must have extensive knowledge in the use of hand tools, including various punch tools, test equipment, and various power tools such as hammer drills and saws Must have expert knowledge of the various types of copper and/or fiber cable and termination hardware as well as termination and testing procedures used on a day-to-day basis Must have extensive knowledge of BICSI and TIA standards Must be able to obtain the BICSI TECH certification within 1 year Must be able to work independently and in team environments Must be able to read construction drawings and other project documents Must have excellent oral and written communication skills Must have good Excel and Word knowledge Desired Qualifications : Active Secret Security Clearance Physical Demands : Ability to climb ladders and work in high spaces Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Ability to work in construction environment Ability to differentiate color, for termination color coding Must be able to stay on feet for long periods of time Must have reliable independent transportation to get to/from job locations Job ID : 2025-16217 Work Type : On-Site Company Description Work Where it Matters Tuva, an Akima company, is not just another federal IT contractor.
