Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Cook
DIVISION: Early Childhood Services
SUPERVISOR: Health and Disabilities Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

PURPOSE:

Perform assigned kitchen duties within the Early Head Start and Preschool programs.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

1. Assures all procedures are in compliance with the State Board of Health regulations, CACFP guidelines, Early Head Start and Preschool regulations.
2. Cook and serve assigned meals per specified menu and time schedule to meet nutritional needs of children in order to help promote school readiness.
3. Prepare meals for parent meetings and other events to help promote family engagement.
4. Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dishes after all meals and snacks.
5. Purchase necessary food items for snack and meal preparation as needed.
6. Wash, sterilize, and prepare all bottles for infants.
7. Work with the Health Services manager to maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and food items.
8. Attends required/requested CACFP, State Board of Health and other trainings as assigned.
9. Complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
10. Comply with regulatory health requirements, including: providing documentation of an annual physical within 30 days of hire and every five (5) years thereafter; and an annual TB test.
11. Must be able to withstand frequent standing, walking, stooping and crouching.
12. Must be able to lift, carry and move items weighing 5-20 pounds.
13. Adheres to all plans, policies and procedures of Bona Vista and Early Head Start and Preschool.

ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS :

1. Excellent and professional communication skills, both oral and written.
2. Must possess critical thinking skills.
3. Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
4. Comply with ethical standards of DSI, FSSA, and other governing bodies.
5. Must be able to withstand frequent standing, walking, stooping and crouching.
6. Must be able to lift, carry and move items weighing 5-20 pounds.
7. Adheres to all plans, policies and procedures of Bona Vista and Early Head Start and Preschool.
8. Must be able to read, write and do basic calculations.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. High School degree preferred.
2. 2 years’ experience working within a food preparation environment.
3. General knowledge of child development, nutrition, health and safety.
4. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
5. Maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license, insurance on personal vehicle (minimum of PLPD with medical liability coverage), and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance carrier.
